Husker's Colt

Born 2/16/2003
Grullo stud colt
Small star, no white feet

"Is it cold enough for you?"  That's what I wanted to ask the poor guy when he came, as it was only 6 degrees Fahrenheit in the barn.  We might have to call him "Chilly" to help us remember how cold it was when he came.

He's a pretty big, good-boned stud colt for a first foal, and based upon his sire and dam he should have a whale of a hip on him...long and wide.  Looks like he'll be grulla with the blue-gray tones (not the brown tones, as far as I can tell).

bullet

Based upon sire/dam heights, my guess is he'll be 15 to 15.2 hh, most likely 15 to 15.1 hh.

bullet

He is a heavy-built colt, and I think will be THICK and powerfully built!

bullet

His legs move SO nicely, staying wide apart and not winging in or out.  His back legs in particular are impressive, with NO indication of being cow-hocked.  You want straight legs on a stallion or performance prospect?  I bet you do!

bullet

1st place at his first AQHA show as a weanling!

bullet

Sire goes back to these horses multiple times: King P-234, Peter McCue, Leo, Joe Reed, Blackburn,  Zantanon, plus goes back to Blue Valentine, Joe Hancock, Music Mount, Oklahoma Star, Plaudit, and  Bartender

bullet

Dam is a big-moving mare with SPEED to burn!  This colt would be your grullo barrel and/or roping prospect!

bullet

Could be homozygous for dun factor. Click here to see the statistics on this.

bullet

Could be homozygous for black. Click here to see the statistics on this.

bullet

Only white is a small star

bullet

He'll probably be a medium blue shade of grullo

bullet

This far, his head looks nice with classic quarter horse shape and good width between his eyes

bullet

Both sire and dam have long, thick, luxurious tails that touch the ground despite only being brushed a couple times per year.  Hopefully, he'll get that trait also!

Dam:  HL Baby Doll Badger (Husker)

"Husker" is our biggest-built mare in terms of bone and thickness, though her photos don't do her justice.  A late bloomer, she is now 15.1 hh and so wide that her hips nearly hit both sides of the doorway to our dutch door stall.   One step off Husker's papers are Grey Badger II, Native Dancer, Doc Bar, and a couple other familiar names.  Her great-grandsire, Doc's Tom Thumb, was a full brother to Doc's Prescription (whose get earned 8,438.5 AQHA points--mostly in cutting) and Doc's Lynx.  And of course she goes back to Poco Bueno and King, among others, further back.
