Brooks N Beau Bailey
1995 AQHA Grulla mare

Brooks is a nice, average-sized mare with a fantastic
shoulder...long and nicely angled. She has a very clean throatlatch, great
withers, small ears, and a beautiful frontal facial expression that is what I'd
call "soft" or "cute" because of her large nostrils and
wide-set eyes. Most importantly (for me, because I'm a farrier), she has
perfectly-straight legs with proper angles and bone. Brooks
is by a buckskin dun (dunskin) stallion and out of a buckskin dam. Brooks
carries both the creme and the dun gene. So, she'll be a 75%
color producer out of plain-colored stallions, and an 87.5% color producer out
of dun or grullo stallions. Crossed with our stallion, she will be a
94% color producer!

Brooks Information (remember our honesty policy...tell you
the negatives so that you'll be pleasantly surprised rather than the other
way around if you buy...if you are looking at a horse and the seller
doesn't tell you negatives, then he or she is hiding something!):
| Very green broke...was on some trail rides for previous owner, but
we've not ridden her. |
| Straight legs |
| Great hooves, easy to take care of--maybe only requiring trim once
per year to keep them looking good, but she really wears them herself
(I don't think we've trimmed her for 1 1/2 years, and she doesn't need a
trim) |
| No white |
| Tons of color in her pedigree |
| Nicely-shaped head with slight dish and clean throatlatch |
| Short, fox ears |
| Super sheen to her coat |
| Carries the creme gene, and would therefore produce palominos and
buckskins in addition to duns, grullas, and red duns |
| Great milker and foals without assistance |
| Gets along great in the pasture and handles easily |
| Sometimes requires grain to catch her when she has foal at side, but
it has never taken us more than 5 minutes of walking to catch and
halter her. In fact, she doesn't walk away from us in an open pasture...only
when she's up by the gate. Can't figure that one out, but it's
ok. We just walk out to pasture and walk right up to her without
grain usually. |
| Could use a little more muscling in the hip to me, but made a
nicely-muscled baby for us in 2002. He will be standing at stud in North
Carolina. He sold for $4000 plus reserved breedings, and was tested
Homozygous for Black by UC Davis. |

| Brooks is for sale for $6000 with her 2003 grullo colt until June
10th. We'll re-evaluate her price if she does not sell before then,
as we can split her from her colt soon after and sell them separately.
She will be bred back to our grullo roan stallion in mid May for a 2004
foal. |
If you're looking for a color-producing mare, you'd be
smart to seriously consider this mare! To our knowledge, she's never
had a non-colored foal. Guaranteed to carry the creme gene AND the dun
factor gene, and probably is homozygous for black as well.
Out-produces herself! Look at this year's
foal for an example!
