  • "Dippity" has been my daughter's 4-H horse, and we're facing a tough decision....Should we keep him to just be my trail riding horse, or should we let another young rider learn from Dippity? Personally, I hate to keep him for just a few trail rides per year and some riding around the farm. He has so much to teach another youth rider!

  • Walks, trots, lopes on command quickly/responsively. Spins, rolls back, backs...I will have to double check to see if he sidepasses or how well he does.

  • Takes the correct lead almost every time on cue...literally, almost every single time. I do remember seeing him take a wrong lead once, so I can't say 100%.  It was an easy fix because he will change leads on cue.

  • Flying lead changes...yep. He does.

  • After one of the reining classes (4-H county fair), the judge encouraged Lauren to take Dippity to the State Fair in reining. He said their pattern that day was about the best reining pattern he had ever seen a 4-H'er her age do. Does that mean Dippity could show in NRHA or APHA reining and win? Not likely. ;-)  We don't have the knowledge to tune him up for that or do it ourselves, and are NOT representing him at that caliber.
But can he do a great job in 4-H and Open Shows?  Heck yeah!  He'd be a fun horse for someone that has the time and the desire for it!

  • Gaming...he'll do barrels, poles, and other games. But we never attempted to train him to be FAST at it, as our enjoyment was more in the Reining, pleasure, Western Riding, etc. where slower speeds were desired.

  • PROs:
Dippity comes from a long-term family ownership, not some horse trader that won't be honest because money is more important than finding the right home.  We'll tell you his cues, his strengths, weaknesses, etc. with honesty because we care about him and want the best-fit home for him!
Does not buck, has never bolted/charged off.

  • CONs:
Tarps.  Dippity is not a fan of tarps. He'll do bridges, poles, back, and a ton of other things you ask of him. But, he doesn't like tarps.
Left eye has some milkiness. We battled an eye issue for the first few years we had him. It hasn't bothered him for the last few years, but there is milkiness on the surface of his left eye.
The only thing I can think of (other than the tarps) is that every now and then on a trail ride, he'll jump as if startled.  One jump, no bolting or bucking.

  • We will start legging Dippity up at the beginning of May, hopefully. We'll make a video when he's legged up, but honestly, we'd love for you to come here to see him, rather than buying off a video.
